Eight sessions are required to begin clay sculpture lessons.  This is usually enough time to complete a medium piece of approximately 15 inches tall.  We begin with building up a figure, which can be human or animal.  Initially, proper hollow building tequnique is stressed; the emphasis is on putting together something that will not fall over and not crack apart or explode in the kiln due to trapped air pockets.

As form, balance, and animation are explored, students will discover the interplay of texture, and finally color in the form of permanent glazes. Harmoniously blending these levels of detail so that each enhances the final creation to the satisfaction of the creator is the only goal.

Through this demanding and exciting medium, the artist stretches his or her imagination to the limits of both.

The cost is 250.00 for 8 sessions of 1 & 1/2-hour long.  This includes clay (the finest stoneware I have ever found!), glazes, firing, and the use of basic tools.    Class size is limited to only six.
